FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Prerequisites Are There?

Those entering this qualification must also demonstrate current VET skills and knowledge relevant to the chosen specialisation in this qualification. This means this isn't for those who haven't yet completed, or who have recently completed their Cert IV in Training and Assessment.

Do I Need To Be Working In An RTO?

It is strongly recommended that you are currently working in an RTO or will be again very shortly, as you’ll find it extremely difficult (near impossible) to complete the assessments and the required practical hours to complete the diploma qualification satisfactorily.

Do I Need To Have the Cert IV TAE Already?

Yes, either the TAE40116 or TAE40122. The diploma is only for those who hold the Cert IV in Training and Assessment and have been working as a trainer and assessor for a number of years. This is because it requires the documenting of a lot of quantifiable evidence such as 100 hours of facilitation, collaboration with peers and leading of other VET Trainers and assessors against 30 assessment judgments etc.

Can I Do a Double or Triple Specialisation?

Yes, you can, but keep in mind that each specialisation is considered a new diploma course, so you will pay for another diploma to do the second and third specialisation. However, if you’ve already done one diploma with us, the second one is 10% off, and if you do the third one with us too, it’s 20% off.

The actual cost to you will vary depending on how many units you can do a credit transfer for . Basically, the cost of each additional specialisation still costs less than the first one.

Is This The Only Vocational Education Diploma Now?

Yes, this diploma merges two previous TAE Diploma qualifications - TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training and TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development. The TAE50122 offers three specialisation pathways and has been deemed NOT equivalent to either of the previous two diplomas.

What Happens If This Course Is Determined As Not Suitable For Me?

If during your Enrolment Interview we discover this course is not suitable for you, we’ll offer other alternative solutions or refund all fees paid, including the $150 deposit.

What Is Involved In The Enrolment Interview?

You’ll be sent to a booking page just after making your deposit payment to book your enrolment interview. A confirmation email will then be sent to you with the details of everything you need to prepare for that interview.

The interview can be booked on the same day, but there is a minimum of a 4-hour gap from applying to being able to do the enrolment interview. This is so you have time to get prepared.

HEADS UP: You will need your USI (Student Identifier) before you get to your interview.

Your interview is done via Google Meet or phone (if preferred). This means that you can ask additional questions before enrolling and clarify anything you’re unsure of. We also get to make sure you have chosen the right course pathway and support package for what you really need.

During the interview, we’ll conduct a "Suitability Assessment." This series of questions will help us determine whether you can meet the technical, practical, and skill requirements needed to confidently complete this course online.

The technical requirements include regular computer access, knowledge, and confidence in navigating email, logins, and websites. The practical questions ensure you have access to the human and physical resources you need to complete the assessments in your course.

We will ask additional questions about your goals, your online experience and comfort level in learning online, your learning ability, plus your availability to study. This is all to ensure you're in the right course and ready to succeed before enrolling formally. This gives you more confidence that you can absolutely get all the way to graduation.

If the course is found to be unsuitable for you, your deposit (including the $150 enrolment interview fee) will be fully refunded. However, the enrolment fee is not refunded if you don't show up for your enrolment interview or change your mind after the interview within the 30-day cooling-off period.

TAE50116 Diploma Experience

I recently completed the TAE50116 Diploma at Fortress and was extremely pleased with the overall experience starting from the initial sign up in March 2023, on-going support and completion of my units. I was able to arrange meetings with my trainer without hassle when I needed further guidance, the admin team would send me emails and SMSs regularly to check in on me and they always were on hand to answer any questions or queries. The layout of the learning management system was fantastic and I always knew what modules had been completed and what was outstanding. It’s one of the best learning portals I’ve used to date. On completion of my last unit I was immediately sent my electronic certificate which is QR coded and verified which expedited the process so I could pass this onto my employer as proof of completion. I highly recommend Fortress Learning to anyone wishing to complete further study. Thanks again to the team for all your support over the last 12 months whilst completing the Diploma.

Ask for help and you'll get it

Staff are there to support you when you need it - I took on the Dip VET and found myself under pressure away from the course. The Fortress team were always happy to jump on a call and chat through options and offer their assistance where possible. A couple of extensions and we finally got there! Don't be dissuaded by the large coursework/RPL files - make a start and you'll find they aren't so bad.

This course has made me a better Trainer and Assessor.

This course has made me a better Trainer and Assessor in many ways. The research project was intense, but very rewarding, I intend to implement many of the strategies I have learned throughout the course. The training staff at Fortress were fantastic and very supportive all the way, they did not hesitate to help me when it was needed. Many thanks to Fortress, especially Jane MacIntosh.

Second to none

I have studied at several different colleges and this one is by far one of the greatest. Not only was the materials and resources current and available but the trainer, Jane MacIntosh was nothing but excellent. Jane was there every time I needed assistance. She went beyond her duty to ensure I understood and carried out the tasks as required. Perfect example of the way things should be done

Dual Dip in a 6 Months…

I decided to do the Dual Dip in a 6 month time frame. The course is very evidence based. Every time I started a new unit, it felt like "this time I am going to get stuck" I most likely will not have all the evidence required to show competency. However, somehow - I pulled it together every time. Jane, was good support, she really understands the curriculum to a high degree. When I figured I really couldn't pull it off in the allotted time, she said; "hmm you still might be able to" She walked me through the requirements in a less detailed version, that really assisted in getting it right the first time. Some of the functionality in Axcelerate is cumbersome, the acceptance of American spelling is a bit annoying. Overall, the experience with Fortress has been positive, I really like the 4 day return on assessments, it keeps you motivated and helps with time management. Thank you.

Highly Recommended! Exceptional RPL Experience

I recently completed my Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in Training and Assessment Education (TAE) through Fortress Learning, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. From start to finish, the process was seamless and well-organized. The support team was incredibly responsive and helpful, guiding me through each step with patience and clarity. The assessors at Fortress Learning are highly knowledgeable and provided valuable feedback that was both constructive and encouraging. Their expertise in the TAE field is evident, and their dedication to helping students succeed is truly commendable. What stood out the most was their tailored approach to my RPL application. They recognized my prior experience and skills, ensuring that the assessment process was relevant and fair. The resources provided were comprehensive and greatly aided in my understanding of the requirements. Overall, Fortress Learning has exceeded my expectations with its professional and supportive approach. I highly recommend their RPL services to anyone seeking to advance their TAE qualifications. Thank you, Fortress Learning, for an outstanding educational experience!

I would highly recommend them to anyone needing to go through the RPL and credit transfer process. They made the whole process so simple and stress free. Emails were normally responded to on the same day, and the giant portfolio I submitted was reviewed and marked within the week. Thank you to Jon, Odeza, Emma and everyone else involved.

Quality TAE RPL assessment is…

Quality TAE RPL assessment is difficult. That's why lesser RTOs avoid it. I tried to negotiate a realistic RPL pathway with two other well-known TAE providers before settling on Fortress. I'm an experienced TAE assessor myself; I was impressed by their commitment to rigorously observing the standards while being flexible enough to capture genuine evidence. I was not only impressed with the service they provided me, I am confident that any colleague or potential employee of mine that is certified through Fortress genuinely has met the standards (and not just benefitted from the "tick and flick" approach of some providers). I have no association with Fortress but I would recommend them to any TAE professional seeking to upgrade their qualifications.
